SONG REVIEW: Foo Fighters - "Asking For A Friend"
The catharsis continues.
Four years after Taylor Hawkins’ untimely death, Foo Fighters continue to power forward with purpose. The fact that they’re still out here producing music after losing a bandmate and a friend is a testament to the band’s vitality; Dave Grohl and company’s quest to carry Hawkins’ legacy on through their music has thus far been carried out with grace. They’re still at war with their emotions on “Asking For A Friend”, a single dropped in tandem with a new tour announcement. It’s heavier than anything from But Here We Are, the fantastic record Foo Fighters recorded in the wake of Hawkins’ death. The cacophonous but mesmerizing mix is similar in sound to Wasting Light, their 2011 record that stood as their last great album until But Here We Are. I don’t know if this means a full new album is on the way, but this combination of the former’s noise and the latter’s polish warrants it.
Verdict: Rescued/10
