SONG REVIEW: Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band - "New Threats From The Soul"
An astonishing piece of Americana nirvana.
I, for one, have always been a fan of a long song. Whether it’s a multi-part epic or a slow burner, if it works, it works. But the most amazing thing a long song can be? Short. “New Threats From The Soul” tops 9 minutes but breezes through its runtime with ease. Ryan Davis’ wistful lyrics paint an incredible picture of a man lost in America, be it in his love life or his faith in the Bible Belt he thought he knew. There’s pain in his drawl but never a pause; Davis pushes forward with a timelessness to his craft that the best writers have. It’s the kind of song that’d thrive solely on its words, but when the instrumental is this astonishingly good, it’s almost unfair. This is Americana nirvana where every soft guitar lick is purposeful and every horn is perfectly placed. Each element unites to make “New Threats From The Soul” one of the most magnetic songs of 2025 so far, and before you know it, you’ll be hitting replay and living through all 9 minutes over and over again. I know I have.
Verdict: Masterful/10
