8 Albums To Listen To In March 2025
The sonic offerings you should be looking forward to this month.
March is upon us, and I’ve always found it to be the first month of any year where the musical calendar really heats up. I’ve got eight albums I’m excited to check out this month, and I’ve written a little preview of them all below and linked a single from each record as well. Happy listening!
Lady Gaga - MAYHEM (March 7)
The first two singles to Lady Gaga’s 7th LP promise an industrial dance party akin to some of her best work, like 2009’s The Fame Monster. I think “Abracadabra” is one of her best songs in a long time, and if the record overall is half as good, we’re in for a hell of a record.
GFOTY - INFLUENZER (March 7)
Am I really excited to listen to a new GFOTY album? No. But her wretched, unfinished approach to hyperpop will always have my attention for sick reasons. INFLUENZER can’t be worse than FEMMEDORM or GFOTV, right? RIGHT???
Japanese Breakfast - For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) (March 21)
Michelle Zauner has released a best-selling memoir, co-created one of the decade’s best EPs and dropped one of the best pop albums of the decade, all in the last five years. She’s been busy at the top, and her latest Japanese Breakfast album promises to expand her musical stylings with a more orchestral approach.
My Morning Jacket - is (March 21)
The venerable Kentuckians are up to their 10th album overall on is. Expect plenty more mixtures of country and rock with psychedelic grooves on this one.
Destroyer - Dan’s Boogie (March 28)
I’d argue there’s not a voice in indie rock I’d never miss more than Dan Bejar’s. His stretch of albums beginning with 2020’s Have We Met have been nothing short of fantastic, and the lead singles for Dan’s Boogie find Bejar in his lane yet again.
Spellling - Portrait Of My Heart (March 28)
While she once entranced us with fantasy landscapes, Spellling’s return after a four-year wait has hinted at something more raw. The lead self-titled single is more conventional in its instrumentation but no less engaging in its vocals. Chrystia Cabral has promised something “more energetic” from Portrait Of My Heart. Color me intrigued.
Perfume Genius - Glory (March 28)
Mike Hadreas’ project has seen several sonic iterations, and with Glory he’s taking a country-tinged approach to things. With his silky voice, he’s slid right in to the first couple teasers with ease.
Lucy Dacus - Forever Is A Feeling (March 28)
Forever Is A Feeling is Lucy’s first solo work in four years, but there’s little doubt her time with boygenius will shape her work here. The lead singles have only confirmed Dacus can still make you cry about relationships you’ve never been in before like she always has.
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you listen to any of these and if you liked/disliked them. Make sure to keep an eye out for my reviews of these albums here as well!
