Bursting onto the scene and winning a couple of Grammys clearly hasn’t made Wet Leg give any more of a shit than they did before. Nonchalant is the name of their game, with Rhian Teasdale’s voice barely bothering to rise above a whisper at all times. This commitment to the lax paired well with the sardonic lyricism about millennial problems made their for a winning formula on their debut record, and I’m happy to say it still works on the lead single to their sophomore album. “catch these fists” rides a bass line more clangorous than anything from Wet Leg, and this noisier approach is a nice sonic wrinkle as Rhian picks a fight with every shitty dude that catches her eye at a bar. It’s as raucous as a song can be when your vocalist is this uninterestedly interesting.
Verdict: Welcome Back/10
