Over the years, the mist surrounding Neggy Gemmy’s synthpop has dissipated considerably. Gone is the shrouded drift of an early single like “You Weren’t There Anymore”; here to stay is a Japanese Breakfast-esque approach to pop music that Mrs. Gemmy handles well. The breezy, bouncy melody of “Polly Pocket” emphasizes the pop of synthpop, crisply moving along as peppy guitars and perky synths percolate around her. The vocals are still a little hard to make out at times amidst the sonic joy, perhaps a throwback to her hazier Negative Gemini period. But it’s no matter to me when the vibe is this good; “Polly Pocket” is a another strong indication of both Neggy Gemmy’s and label 100% Electronica’s continued dominance in the alternative synthpop world.
Verdict: Pint-Sized Fun/10
